This is my thirteenth year of teaching school; the first 6 years I was a 1st grade teacher and the last 6 years I taught TAG students. I really do love teaching TAG! It is so rewarding to see a child's eyes light up when she or he gets it! "Education is not filling a pail but the lighting of a fire." by William Butler Yeats neatly sums up how I feel about teaching and what I enjoy most about teaching TAG kids. I earned my teaching degree long ago from Washington State University with early childhood development and natural sciences as my areas of concentration.
In my spare time I enjoy gardening, reading, traveling, and nature in general. And of course I enjoy my family, although at this point we are empty nesters. Eric, my husband of 42 years, is a chemistry professor at Clark Atlanta University. We have two sons. Ryan is 25, he graduated from UGA in developmental economics, then taught English in China for 1 1/2 years. and what an adventure that was! This year he is on a new adventure as he joined the Peace Corps last spring and is now working on the Carribean coast of Nicaragua. Our oldest son Allen, 29, also graduated from UGA in philosophy and cognitive science. He had his travel adventures too and supported them by teaching English in Ukraine for 3 years. He stayed longer than originally planned because he was falling in love with his future wife. They live in New York city now, he just graduated from law school and started working for a N.Y.C. firm this September. They are all grown up now and we are so proud of them!
This summer we went on a wonderful trip to Italy! It was our first time there. We went to the Amalfi coast, Pompeii, Rome, Florence, and Venice! We had an incredible time. I also spent a couple of weeks in Washington and Idaho spending time with my Mom, my brothers and sisters. My summer vacation was very full and I actually spent more time away from home than I did at home this year. I hope you all had a wonderful summer too!
