This unit explores the marsh, beach, and coastal ecosystems of Georgia’s barrier islands. We will also study the ocean and how pollution and global warming affects the ocean and the coastlines. We will also be examining water quality, water systems infra structure, and sanitation.

Mind Your Own Business unit
Fifth grade students had the opportunity to go before a Shark Tank panel to
present/pitch their products and start up businesses they have developed in this
Mind Your Own Business unit. The panel included: Ginny Long, Jermaine McCollum,
Beth Serra, Kathy Mintz, Gayl Struletz, and Jason Perot (a local businessman).
In the first round of the Shark Tank each group pitched their product to their own class and teacher. The top groups from each class competed in the final round of the Shark Tank with the panelists questioning and judging their products and businesses. Everyone else was in the audience. What a great learning experience for young entrepreneurs!

Conflict & Cooperation
In which students will study important events in U.S. history during the 20th century (World War I, World War II, and the Cold War) which illustrate conflict and cooperation among people and nations.
Essential Questions:
1. In what ways do events in our country's past influence us today?
2. In what ways do groups of people cooperate and conflict with one
another, and what effect does this have on the world?
3. How can conflict be minimized and cooperation maximized?
4. How can conflict sometimes lead to cooperation and cooperation sometimes lead to conflict?
5. Is conflict always bad? Is cooperation always good?
6. Can we really learn from the past to improve our future?
